Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School provides a comprehensive sequential and integrated Prep -G6 curriculum adopted from the Australian Curriculum in the following key areas:

These learning areas are fundamental to our class programs from Kindergarten to Grade 6.  We aim to provide a learning environment that enables students to develop a positive vision for themselves and the world in which they live. Students are taught to value diversity, act democratically and consider the consequences of scientific and technological innovations in their environment.

Languages Other Than English (LOTE)

Japanese is currently taught from Prep – G6.

Information and communications technologies

Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School is committed to the pursuit of excellence in learning and teaching through the integration of learning technologies into education programs. We ensure that high-quality programs and on-line materials are available and promoted. All students have access to iPads as a regular part of their learning program. Our school has developed guidelines for safe and responsible use of ICT and all students are required to work to these expectations. Students in Prep–6 are required to sign a Computer Use Agreement which details their obligations regarding appropriate computer use while at the school.

The Arts

Specialised Drama lessons are provided to all classes from P – G6.

Students participate regularly in music lessons taught by a specialist music teacher.  Grade 3 – 6 students also have the opportunity to participate in Choir.

Health and wellbeing

Students from K – G6 participate in Physical Education (PE) lessons with a specialist PE teacher. We have a Daily Fitness program and also participate in Learn to Swim, swimming carnivals, athletics and cross-country carnivals and a variety of sports clinics including cricket, Aussie rules and basketball.

Library

The school library is operated by a qualified library technician and is open Monday and Tuesday. Classes have regular times for visiting the library to access its resources.

The curriculum is designed to ensure that all students gain the knowledge, skills and deep understanding required to be confident, successful learners. We strive to stimulate and challenge our students. We provide every opportunity to help children gain personal confidence through experiencing success on a daily basis and encourage them to see themselves as independent learners.
